OVERVIEW
flowr helps users understand where they are in the arc of deep focus in real time — from Scatter, to Entry, to Flow, to Recovery.
Instead of treating focus as a binary or productivity as the end goal, we designed flowr as a stage-based system for sensing, protecting, and gently exiting deep immersion. The result is a speculative product that combines state awareness, interruption protection, recovery tools, and long-term pattern tracking into one calm, wearable-supported experience.
PROMPT
flowr was created for FigBuild 2026, Figma for Edu’s second annual design-a-thon. The challenge asked teams to identify something intangible, invisible, or previously unmeasurable about the human sensory experience and design a speculative tool to track and influence it.
That framing pushed us to think beyond traditional productivity tools and instead ask: what invisible internal state is deeply human, widely felt, and still difficult to perceive clearly?
Our answer was flow.
SOLUTION
Stage-based Home Experience
The home screen surfaces the user’s current state, mapping flow into four stages:
Scatter: the default — attention is still diffuse
Entry: focus begins to form
Flow: deep immersion
Recovery: transition to baseline
Features & Tools to Support the Flow Experience
flowr not only visualizes the flow, but also protects and enhances it.
Memo: captures thoughts without breaking the moment.
Auto Protection Mode: detects entry and reduces interruptions.
Post-flow Recovery: helps users transition with wellness tools.
Stats & Pattern-learning
Over time, flowr reveals patterns behind the user’s best sessions. The goal is to turn flow from something accidental into something more understandable.
Stats Page: offers insights into when flow tends to happen and what conditions support it.
A Quiet Social Layer
The Friends page shows where trusted contacts are in their own flow arc — creating a sense of companionship during deep work, while signaling when to give each other space. User's status is only visible to others if they choose to share it.
Friends Page: shows status of trusted contacts.
